Family

The best part is being together.

Every trip gives us new places to explore, new stories to share, and memories we will carry for life. Monterey is our next chapter.

Welcome

A family trip built around time together

Monterey gives us so much to look forward to: aquarium discoveries, dramatic coastal scenery, beach walks, local food, hiking, shopping, and time to simply enjoy the view. With something for every age and energy level, we can make the most of our days together while still leaving room to slow down, reconnect, and come home refreshed.

One anchor a day

One shared experience gives each day its highlight, and everything else can build around it.

Choose your pace

Big adventures, easier outings, and restful afternoons can all happen on the same day.

Stay flexible

Weather and energy will shift, and that freedom is part of what makes the trip fun.

The itinerary

Five days on the coast

Each day has one shared anchor, with optional ideas layered around it. Nothing here is mandatory — the rhythm is the plan.

Food

Easy meals, more time together

For a group this large, the best meals are the ones that feel special without turning the trip into a cooking project. These are the leading ideas, not a fixed menu.

Pizza + salad night

Pizza My Heart is the current low-friction front-runner because of its large pies and clearer vegan choices. Final order and allergy procedures still need confirmation.

Mediterranean family spread

Dametra Fresh is the leading family-style takeout idea, with falafel, hummus, pita, rice, salad, and meat packaged separately. Paprika Café is the more distinctive local alternative if it can handle an advance group order.

Lovers Point picnic

A build-your-own sandwich picnic, starting with Grove Market and using Safeway Pacific Grove as the practical backup for bulk items and gaps.

Fresh local seafood

Monterey Fish Company is an option for family members who want to cook seafood at the Airbnb, subject to strict fish-allergy precautions and confirmation of the allergy's severity.

Fresh from the coast

A taste of the Monterey coast

Fresh seafood is one of the culinary pleasures of visiting the Monterey Peninsula. Depending on the season and the day's catch, family members can explore a local fish market, enjoy a waterfront seafood meal, or bring something fresh back to the house for a simple dinner.

Visit the fish market

Monterey Fish Company is worth considering for fresh seafood to prepare at the house. Selection will depend on the day's catch.

Enjoy it along the waterfront

A seafood lunch or dinner can become part of the Monterey experience, with the harbor and coastline setting the scene.

Keep dinner simple

Fresh fish, salad, bread, and a few easy sides can make a memorable meal without turning the evening into a major cooking project.

Important: Seafood is an optional experience for interested family members, not the shared meal for everyone. One family member has a fish allergy, and the group also needs substantial vegan choices. Seafood should not be part of the shared picnic. Kitchen cross-contact procedures and restaurant preparation must be confirmed before final orders are placed.

Before we go

A few things to know

  • Weather on the Monterey Peninsula can be cool, windy, and foggy even in August. Bring layers.
  • The group will use two vans and may split for Friday's activities.
  • Some details will stay flexible until reservations, weather, and group interest are clear.
  • The itinerary favors scenic experiences, downtime, and shared meals over rushing between attractions.
  • Exact meeting times, reservations, packing details, and emergency contacts will be added later.

Bring along

  • Layers
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Sun protection
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Light jacket

A full packing list will come later — these five cover most of the coast.

Still taking shape

These are normal planning items, and we will confirm them closer to the trip:

  • Aquarium ticket and arrival plan
  • Friday parking and route details
  • Interest in whale watching
  • Final dinner orders and dietary counts
  • Exact meeting times

The plan is simple: enjoy the coast and enjoy each other.

We will keep refining the details, but the shape of the trip is already clear: one shared experience each day, room for different interests, and plenty of time together.
